Fish Art...Scalefish Studios + Giveaway

Nate Karnes of Scalefish Studio and I connected earlier this year when I was tagged in one of his photo on Instagram. I scrolled through his IG feed and eventually found myself liking almost all of his photos. I fell in love with his creative nature and the passion behind that creativity.

Nate and I began to talk and before I knew it, I had a decal with his famous "Pig Brown Trout" print (see above photo) on my YETI, one of my favorite and most mentioned stickers of all my cooler real estate. Nate and I spoke back and forth for awhile and he came up with a print only an east coast striped bass fisherman would love...the "Striper Cow".

All of his animal art is play on words to match what we nickname large fish of a certain species. It works so well together, thats what makes it so unique. Here are a few other examples of what he has to offer...

Where does this all fit into Carp Week you ask...well it just so happens that Nate's latest masterpiece, titled "Pig Carp", was released a few days prior to carp week and are already made into stickers.

I know, awesome right?! Today, we will be giving away 3 "Pig Carp" stickers. How does one obtain such an awesome piece of sticker porn? Easy...

-Follow/Like Scalefish Studio on Facebook and/or Instagram

*If you do not have a Facebook or Instagram, copy the URL of his store and send it in the email.*

-Email us at tltffcarpweek@gmail.com with the subject line "Scalefish Pig Carp".

-Tell us what your favorite other animal sticker from Scalefish is.

-Three lucky winners will be selected tomorrow via Random.org.

I actually have a few pieces of Nate's work in my house, some in my tying room and some around the house. His work goes far beyond his animal line, in fact, his commissioned work and originals are out of this world. Roll on over to his site, www.natekarnes.com to see what else he has to offer including shirts (available for pre-order now), stickers, and more.

Badwater Designs' Super-Radical Decals

The other day, as I was washing my Jeep, I was checking out the stickers on my back windows. Its something you don't do all too often, you usually slap them on and let others enjoy. I realized how radical one of my stickers was and totally forgot who made it. So I delved in and did some research just so you guys could enjoy some deek goodness from one of the best in the biz.

Check it, Badwater Designs has been pumping out legit decals for a few years now and their stuff is totally original. Here is the sticker I have from them is...Striped Bass...boom!

All of their stickers come in black, white, blue, or silver and in two sizes, large or small. The large deeks are 18" x 6.10" and cost $17.99 and the small ones are 8" x 2.73" and cost $7.99.

They offer seven different species: Largemouth Bass, Mahi Mahi, Marlin, Redfish, Striped Bass, Tarpon, and Tuna. With more designs sure to roll out soon and some apparel, this is a company worth supporting just for their gnar factor.

Now heres the catch...in order to get your hands on these decals, you have to buy it from one of these dealers. Isn't one near you? No problem, just talk to your local shop and give them this contact info, get their stuff into your shop and let them know they heard about them here at TLTFF. I found one shop online that has the four pictured decals, the Tuna, the Mahi Mahi, the Marlin and the Striped Bass. Its Off the Hook Bait and Tackle. Check our Badwater and show them some desk love.

Allen Releases Their Newest Reel - The Kraken

Through my contacts I've been hearing rumors of a new reel from Allen for a few months now. With the release of their Eric Hornung Artist Series Kraken Decal and Shirt, I had an idea that something big and new was coming and got a decent idea of what it looked like with the head of the beast being the design of the reel.

A Winner and a Chance to Win

Alright guys, so we ran our 3rd Anniversary Giveaway at the end of last week celebrating 3 years of TLTFF. After running a random number generator, our winner has been selected and Nicole Esson has won a TLTFF sticker swag pack.

Nicole, email us at tightlinedtalesofaflyfisherman@gmail.com.

Now, as for our next contest. On Tuesday we hit 200 'Likes' on Facebook. HUGE (at least for us). So as promised, we are going to be running another giveaway. We have some gnar gear stored up here at HQ and would love for you guys to have it. So heres how it works:
  • Comment on this post, telling us what type of stuff you would buy if we put a TLTFF logo on it (shirts, hats, visors, stickers, bottle openers, hoodies, etc).
  • Tell people about us (this doesn't help your chance of winning but really makes us happy).
  • There will be one winner, selected on Halloween (October 31st).
This contest wil give us a great idea as to what our next step will be and what products we will bring to a "TLTFF Store".

Orvis and the Carp Game

So this year Orvis decided to jump in to the Carp game not only by sponsoring Carp-Pocalypse out in Oregon, but by adding Carp flies to their selection as well as a gnarly sticker. Check out what Orvis has to offer in their Carp section of flies.

As you can see, for now, there are only 6 flies but two variations are offered for most of them. All of them are $2.95 except for May's Clearwater Crayfish (pictured above bottom middle) which is $3.95. Like I said above, Orvis is also offering a pretty gnarly sticker, shown here...

The sticker can be purchased for $4.95 in a 4-pack. I'm pumped the bigger names are getting into the Carp game, its amazing how the fish has moved its way into the elite in only a matter of about two years!

One of our biggest supporters is a company many of you have heard me mention but may not know much about. KAVU. One of my best friends from college, T-Bob, works for KAVU as their Marketing Bro. He was awesome enough to send us a care package filled with some gnarly swag just for you guys! I mean, we got some legit stuff. So, in order to give you guys this legit stuff, we're going to have a giveaway involving what KAVU is all about. You don't know what KAVU is all about...? Well, let me educate you a bit with a snippet from their site...

BUSY LIVIN'

KAVU outdoor clothing is designed for men and women with busy livin’ lifestyles.

All of our gear and apparel is crafted for what we call a KAVU Day– the adventure that leaves you exhilarated, exhausted and fully alive. Whether your KAVU Day involves kayaking, hiking, climbing, or just some quality time in the big outdoors, we’ve got you covered. It’s all about attitude, doing what you love and pushing boundaries.

Since 1993, we at KAVU have been weaving this feeling into our comfortable and durable outdoor clothing. We understand what you need because we’re out doing the same thing: playing hard, getting dirty, creating fun. This is the attitude behind KAVU gear. We provide the apparel for all your adventures, wherever they lead you.

Based in Seattle, KAVU is a small, energetic company that refuses to rest. Founded on the now-classic Strapcap, we’ve expanded into a wide range of men’s and women’s clothing, bags, sunglasses, and accessories. We take great care to choose fabrics that are eco-friendly, using natural fabrics such as bamboo, hemp, and cotton.

Our outdoor-ready clothing perfectly blends function and fashion, so you can rough it up all day, then wash out the trail grit and wear it to your favorite watering hole that night – and look good doing it.

So have a KAVU Day! We’ll meet up later and share some stories.

Perfect, this is exactly what your going to do...tell stories. We want to hear about a KAVU day you've had. Whether it be climbing a mountain with a friend and throwing down a hammock to relax at the summit or hooking into and landing that monster Brown Trout you've been working for 3 hours. Give it to us, we want to hear your story. Email your KAVU Day story to our email tightlinedtalesofaflyfisherman@gmail.com, write it on our Facebook page, or comment below on this post.

Fly Product: Goat Head Sole Spikes

While Tweeting one day, I got a random Tweet back from a company called Goat Head. I really knew nothing about them but after a short Twitter conversation, I had a pair of their featured products in my hand in about 3 days. Initially, I was thinking, they have a legit logo and great product idea, why not. After talking with Mat Brown (co-owner and founder of Goat Head), I knew I had something good in my hands and couldn't wait to get these things into my wading boots.

For any of you who have stepped into a stream full of Didymo, walked along a path with mossy rocks, or even hiked a path after a good rain, let me start out by saying...read this review.
