There was one item as a fly tier I had on my wish list for awhile that, at the time I could not justify the cost for nor find available when it did seem right...one that eventually came off the market.

A fly tester.

Once FlyMen decided they would no longer carry their $285 Fish-Skull Fly Tester, I was on the hunt to find a used one for sale or something I could use in its stead. This would be one to test out new ties or run some simulation tests of tried and true patterns to see how they look to the fish I was planning on chasing. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to want to let theirs go and they were impossible to find at the shows as dealers had sold out.

Thats when I was introduced to Kent Christensen of Pristine Plastics by friend Jason Haddix of Waters Edge Fly Co. Jason and Kent recognized the void that had been left and the remaining demand for a fly tester...thats how the Chum Bucket came to be.

Once we started to chat about the product I had been looking for, it was pretty obvious that Kent's Chum Bucket single tube tank was it. There are two different models offered currently from Kent, a single tube and double tube (double seen above, currently being used by Jason for shows and testing). He has worked in plastics and custom acrylics for years and put together exactly what Jason knew was needed in the commercial and recreational space...a quality tank that wouldn't break the bank while keeping necessary functions for accurate testing of flies from fresh to salt, topwater to deepwater.

Immediately after receiving the Chum Bucket single tube tank, I had an order come through from a friend for a few dozen flies for Chesapeake Stripers. The mixed bag of ties included patterns from size 1 Clousers up to bigger meaty baitfish on 5/0 hooks.

Before I decided to crank out the order I had received, I set up the Chum Bucket so that I could run through every first tie of each pattern to ensure my wraps and material groupings were doing exactly what I wanted them to. While setting up I ran through the tank to acclimate myself to the features and chatted back and forth with Kent to make sure I understood each function to take full advantage of the Chum Bucket.

The single tube Chum Bucket comes with:

-Custom Acrylic Chum Bucket tank

-Single propulsion pump

-Two magnetic cubes for line anchor points

-Care and maintenance instructions (see below)

The pump is a single propulsion pump with an adjustable flow intake valve. This allows you to adjust the intake and therefore output from wide open to completely closed. I played around with this up and down to simulate a stripping motion which gives you a pretty awesome variable impression of your fly underwater beyond the constant flow. *Disclaimer, photography of acrylic is difficult.

The pump fits down and locks into two custom slots built in to the back wall of the tank (shown below). The slots allow you to run the pump with the flow output higher or lower in the water column of the tube. I prefer to have it flipped with the intake facing down and outflow more towards the bottom of the tube (opposite of photo below). Adjusting the height of the pump allows you to play around with flow through the tube so you can accommodate different weights of the fly being tested. To lock the pump in at different heights, a simple clothes pin clamping the power cord to the edge of the tank can do the trick.

The magnetic cubes are magnetized to two anchor magnets built in to the tank. One is on the bridge above the end of the tank, opposite of the pump. This anchor point is perfect for running flies on top or subsurface above the tube, where water returns back to the pump. The second magnetic anchor point is directly behind and slightly above the pump. This is perfect for running flies down into the tube. I have been using small tippet (5x) for testing almost all flies to give them the most free-flowing motion possible, it also anchors well under magnets.

The water leaves the outflow and shoots directly down the single tube at the bottom of the tank and water column, maintaining a consistent, channeled flow through the tube. The flow is then redirected through angling up at the end of the tank and immediately back towards the pump at the top of the water column. Below you can see the tube, which is about 8.5" in length by about 3" in diameter and with the flow wide open, you can see the turbine effect it has as it returns towards the pump (you can also see the top anchor magnet).

Being made of acrylic, this tank can last an eternity if maintained properly, which takes minimal effort. The cleaning process is pretty simple, keep it clean by wiping it down. As with acrylic fish tanks, if water is left stagnant or unchanged for a period of time, it can have a film build up. Kent recommends emptying the tank out once every few weeks and giving it a solid wipe down with a warm, damp microfiber towel to avoid any scratching. There are a few don'ts associated with cleaning the Chum Bucket...NEVER use a towel or cloth you use with other household items, they can retain dirt and chemicals, NEVER use glass cleaning products that contain ammonia or chemicals (even if they are environmentally friendly, organic, or scent-free), NEVER use scouring compounds or any type of solvents. If you do need something other than a towel and water to clean, Kent recommends Novus 1 which can be found affordably on Amazon.

When discussing tools every serious tier should have on their desk, we can all agree it comes down to quality bobbins, a vise that fits the needs of your tying/fishing portfolio, scissors, hair brush, a hair stacker, whip finisher...but I would argue, after this review, that every serious modern tier should add in a fly tester and more specifically, The Chum Bucket. The difference in a bend rod and a skunked day could come down to fly action when targeting most fish that tend to change their appetites based on something as simple as the way a fly moves. This cuts out that confusion and allows you to trim or add to a tie after a brief observation from an added tool right there in your tying room.

Pricing, this is where is gets good. The single tube Chum Bucket sells via Jason at Water's Edge at $79, while the double tube is at $129. Yea...go ahead and read that again, then hit up Jason via phone (970) 310-1393 or via email at jhaddix@watersedgeflyco.com as he is currently the wholesaler for Kent's Chum Buckets.

The Chum Bucket fly tester that Kent has made goes above and beyond what I had expected. When paired with the extremely affordable price (comparatively), and added features that were missed in previous models and iterations, I can honestly say this is one of my favorite reviews to date. This product alone added a new dynamic to my tying bench and quite possibly added to the success I had this Fall on the Bay and local rivers.
For more offerings including fly displays, epoxy turning wheels and more, give Kent a call at (970) 776-9228 or shoot him an email at kent@pristineplastics.com. Kent is an awesome and innovative person to work with and is constantly asking for feedback. Being a small shop, he is able to customize your order any way you see fit from sizing changes (away from the single tube's 19" long x 7" tall x 4" wide build) all the way to added features. I highly recommend working with him to customize your ideas!
There is no greater thrill in fly fishing than stalking extremely large, hungry, easily-spooked fish along coastal inshore waters. Whether you chase stripers in New England, big reds in the marshes of the south, or bonefish on the turquiose flats of the Caribbean, the Tide Chaser is your new weapon of choice. We designed the Tide Chaser to be light enough to make that 1000th cast, yet strong enough to punch big flies through the wind.

On January 13, 2017 while in support U.S. and Foreign Partner SOF in South East Asia, he was severely wounded by Improvised Explosives. He lost several fingers on one hand, the other was severely burned and he had fragmentation throughout his body. After 12 surgeries, physical therapy and he recovered from his injuries. Greg returned to work and continues occupational therapy. I went back to Fort Benning and on September 27, 2007, graduated from the Army’s Sniper Course. My first deployment to Afghanistan was in January, 2008 where I encountered IED blasts and firefights. Hey I was headed back to Bragg, where I spent my last 2 years in the Army training other soldiers that were going to be part of ETTs in Afghanistan. I received an Honorable Discharge in May, 2012. My life began to collapse entirely.

In August, 2014, I landed at the Salem VAMC, dried out for 2 weeks, then went into a 28 day substance abuse program. After discharge, I am homeless, I have no money. I went into Trust House, a halfway house which has 15 vets living there. By January 1, 2015, I had been sober since I first checked into the VA in August. In February I met Bob Crawshaw and Jake Blizzard of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. My life now has something in it I can obsess over and be passionate about that is healthy. My life revolves around fly tying and fly fishing. I have attended many PHWFF trips and events. I am now giving back. I now guide my fellow veterans and teach them fly tying. Being able to feel that fellowship again is wonderful. I no longer hate myself, for the first time in a long time, my life revolves around wanting to live free and healthy. And, on October 7, 2017, I got married to the love of my life. My future is bright indeed.

She grew up a tomboy helping her father with plumbing, drywall, electrical, automotive repair, and masonry. She spent countless hours by his side listening to stories of his time in Korea and visiting with her grandfather who told stories of his time in WWII. Her father explained if she was going to enlist there are three people you want to make friends with: the Cook, Supply and Finance. He explained everyone needs supplies, food and money in the military.

Lisa graduated high school in 1986. She gave birth to a daughter in 1988 and a son in 1992. She began attending college and joined the California Army National Guard in 1993 attached to the 40th Finance Battalion out of Compton, California as a Finance/Accounting Specialist and Financial Management Technician because everyone needs the money guy. Lisa completed her obligation in late August 2001.

Lisa worked as a Park Ranger, Inspection and Quarantine for the United States Department of Agriculture, and Detention Officer while completing her Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration at the California State University Fullerton graduating in 2003. Lisa was attending the university as a graduate student when she reenlisted in the Army in 2004 where she met Don her husband. She was deployed to Iraq in 2004 stationed at FOB Speicher in Tikrit, Iraq. She worked as a finance cashier, Supply SGT, NBC NCO, Unit Military Postal Clerk, and the additional duty as Security Officer. Don deployed to Iraq in 2004 stationed at FOB Warrior in Kirkuk, Iraq.

In March 2005 she suffered multiple head and neck injuries. While being treated at the Balad Air Base Theater Hospital she was housed in the patient overflow tent when it was mortared. She was later released to Speicher for additional treatment. While there she was severely beaten, strangled and left for dead. She received more treatment and sent to Germany, stabilized and on to Ft. Knox, Kentucky where she spent 17 months recovering from her injuries and separated from the military.

After returning home in late 2006 Lisa returned to work as a Jail Manager and Correctional Officer. She was unable to perform her duties without putting herself and others in danger and resigned her position. She married Don in 2009; their blended family consisting of four daughters and one son. Lisa returned to the university to complete her degree. She received a Masters of Science in Criminology in 2009 from California State University Long Beach. Then attended California State University Fullerton to study Crime and Intelligence Analysis as well as California State University Dominquez Hills to study Community College Teaching. She then worked as a Crime and Intelligence Analyst. Lisa found the job worsened her PTSD making her completely unable to trust people.

Her son enlisted and soon deployed to Afghanistan. Lisa now understood what it was like to be the one at home. She was losing her battle with depression, anxiety, isolation, agoraphobia and trust issues. After years of conventional therapy with the Veterans Affairs Administration, her symptoms were worsening. Her mental health professionals encouraged her to contact Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. Lisa decided to return to school and was admitted to the University Southern California. The postgraduate program was very supportive when Lisa decided she could not continue and returned to the VA for exposure therapy, CBT, and EMDR. During her therapy Lisa found herself at her worst. She was losing the battle within herself and decided to try the alternative therapy with Project Healing Waters. Lisa called Carole Katz of Project Healing Waters Long Beach who promptly returned her call, giving Lisa no chance to talk herself out of going. She attended the meeting and found the participants and volunteers to be warm and inviting. The camaraderie was between the participants was apparent and was something Lisa had missed. Lisa started just in time for rod building and found the activity to be very therapeutic, taking her out of her own head while she worked. Casting had the same effect on her; she found herself spending extra days at the casting pond practicing. Lisa’s family saw the improvement in her and supported her fly-fishing by encouraging her and providing her with the latest and greatest fly-fishing gear. Lisa found over time her relationship with her husband, Don, improved. Don, a combat veteran has remained by her side caring for and supporting her through the worst of times. Her relationships with her five children had deteriorated over the years since she returned home from Iraq, but, since participating in Project Healing Waters, these relationships became stronger over time as she opened herself up to them once again. They continue to show their support and encouragement often commenting how wonderful it is to have their mother home.

He and his brother and sister played in creeks and enjoyed the outdoors. When Wayne was 8 years old his father went into the ministry and the family moved to Fargo, ND and later to Hermiston, OR and then on to Tillamook, OR. Wayne knew from when he was 10 years old that he wanted to be in the military (Air Force) like his father was in 1968. Wayne was fascinated with anything that was military and knew that travelling the U.S. with his family would help prepare him to see the world while in the military.

Wayne was an excellent student throughout school. He loved ROTC where he excelled and was the top ranking cadet at his school. When he was 22 he decided on May 3, 1996 to join the Army and go to Forward Observer School (13F). Wayne was the distinguished Honor Grad in both BASIC Training and AIT. After his initial time in the Army he went into the TN Army National Guard as a 13P Fire Direction Specialist for the MLRS/HIMARS weapon system.

Today, April 21, is a big day for those who dream of catching a trophy striped bass. More than a few anglers will spend the night before checking alarm clocks just to find themselves waking up a half-hour before the alarm is set to go off anyhow.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Weather is predicted to be a little nippy in the morning but should warm up as the day progresses. It will be a wonderful day to be out on the water with family and friends.

The striped bass spawning in the Choptank, Nanticoke, Patuxent and Potomac rivers is behind schedule due to colder than expected water temperatures, and spawning in the upper Chesapeake Bay is most likely weeks away. This week the spawning area in the Choptank River registered 56 degrees and there is a minor amount of spawning occurring. Usually spawning begins at 60 degrees and is optimal at 64.5 degrees, so many female striped bass are still holding in the spawning reaches. Based on predicted weather forecasts, it may be another week or so for water temperatures to be correct in that area.

Those out trolling Saturday will most likely be kept busy clearing lines of winter jellies which are being swept along the steep channel edges. Unfortunately these are the same locations where the most optimum trolling will take place for striped bass. Winter jellies are actually lion’s mane jellyfish which are moving down the bay as part of their life cycle.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Pre-spawn striped bass will be the most common large fish being caught and it will be a tough decision for some to keep these fish or release them. The minimum size for striped bass during the trophy season is 35 inches. Chartreuse and white bucktails and parachutes in 2-6 ounce sizes will be the most common lures used and will be set to cover a wide variety of depths when searching for fish. Trolling speeds are often about 3 knots and the trolling pattern is perpendicular to the shipping channel edges.
Weekly Fishing Conditions Forecast Summary: April 17 – 24, 2018
Expect an unstable, windy weather pattern through Friday with warming weather for rest of the next week. These slowly warming temperatures will help heat bay waters for rockfish, shad and other fish preparing to spawn here in the next several weeks. Temperatures on the Susquehanna Flats are hovering just shy of 50 degrees but climbing for start of the trophy rockfish season. Warming temperatures are also a cue for blue crabs to emerge from their winter slumber in the bay’s deeper areas.
Maryland’s portion of the bay continues to have suitable oxygen conditions from surface to bottom. In addition, there are slightly warmer surface water temperatures so anglers may want to scan these shallower areas for fish during moving water and low light conditions after sunset and before sunrise.
As reported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration buoys, main bay surface water temperatures are holding about 51 degrees at the Annapolis, Gooses Reef and Point Lookout buoys. Expect temperatures in smaller, dark-bottomed shallow creeks to hold slightly warmer temperatures. As tides empty the water in these warm creeks, look for nearby structure to target feeding gamefish. Expect average flows for the Susquehanna River, with above average flows for the Potomac and for smaller rivers and streams entering the bay. There will be above average tidal currents through Saturday as a result of the new moon this past Monday.
<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
The hickory shad have arrived in the lower river and are staging for their spawning run up Deer Creek. A few have been caught in the river but the best is yet to come when we get some warm weather. The creek’s water temperature is also running cold and needs to warm up before the spawning runs start in earnest. The hickory shad will start to run when water temperatures are in the low 50s with a peak occurring from 59 to 72 degrees. It can be a tricky affair to be on scene since the hickory shad tend to run in pulses up Deer Creek to spawn since cold snaps, rain events and warm sunny weather all have an effect on water temperatures. There is a smaller run of hickory shad at Octoraro Creek and often the water is a bit warmer than Deer Creek, so a spawning run can occur at Octoraro first.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Cold water temperatures in the Susquehanna Flats are also holding back the striped bass spawn area and the arrival of the larger females. Casting jigs this week can often result in double-digit numbers of small male striped bass in the 16 to 29-inch size range a larger female once in a while. If one is careful this is a great area to fish from a kayak; casting is easy and if you have a rod holder you can even troll a line. The best catches of large pre-spawn female striped bass are occurring by slow trolling with large diving plugs in the 8 to 10-inch size range. When fishing this way, anglers must remember to remove the barbs on the treble hooks, or better yet replace them with single hooks that have the barbs removed. Anglers are reminded that fish are to be released quickly.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
There has been a limited amount of catch-and-release fishing for striped bass in the upper bay region along channel edges and the Bay Bridge. Some anglers are jigging along channel edges when they can find suspended fish holding. Most of these fish are smaller striped bass in the 19 to 28-inch size range. The same is being said for the Bay Bridge piers and rock piles. Water temperatures have slowly climbed to 50 degrees. Trolling along channel edges has resulted in a few large fish being caught and released but the action is being reported as very slow.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Middle Bay

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Boats have been leaving ports to stretch their legs – so to speak – throughout the middle bay region. Windy conditions have made it tough to be out on the open waters of the bay (remember to always wear your life jacket), but there have been a few days when the winds were moderate. Trolling along the steep shipping channel edges at Bloody Point south to Buoy R 84 and near the CP Buoy have been good places this past week for catch–and-release fishing. The Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant warm water discharge continues to be the place to jig for large female striped bass. Large soft plastic jigs tend to be the ticket to this show while drifting in the warm effluent current. All of these large female fish are of course pre-spawn and most likely on their way to the upper bay spawning site, so they need to be handled with great care.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
The white perch spawning runs are still underway in the major tidal rivers and can provide some fun fishing and table fare. The white perch are still spread from the Greensboro area up to the Red Bridges gauging station in the upper Choptank River. The river has been high over its banks due the big rain we received this past Sunday night, but has returned to normal conditions. The hickory shad are present in the same areas and both white perch and hickory shad can be caught on shad darts. When the post-spawn white perch begin to retreat down river, fishing with bloodworms in the deeper holes is a good tactic.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Catch-and-release fishing for large striped bass in the lower bay is being reported to be slow this week along the shipping channel edges. A few smaller striped bass are being caught and released by jigging along the bay’s channel edges and the middle Potomac River’s channels. Opening Day will see a lot of boats trying their luck out on the bay, and the Cove Point area is a traditional area to troll.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Fishing for white perch continues to be very good in the Nanticoke, Wicomico and Pocomoke rivers. Many of the larger white perch are beginning to make their way down river from the spawning areas. Fishing with pieces of bloodworms on bottom rigs in some of the deeper waters is a good bet. Fishing for channel and blue catfish has also been very good in the Nanticoke River.

<div class="wp-caption alignleft" style="background-color: white; border: 1px solid rgb(240, 240, 240); caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; float: left; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 5px 20px 20px 0px; max-width: 96%; padding: 5px 3px 10px; text-align: center; width: 330px;">

Catch-and-release fishing for hickory shad is about as good as it gets in the tidal Potomac near the Chain Bridge in the District of Columbia. Your Maryland license will not be valid there but the cost of a nonresident license is worth the fun of catching hickory and American shad. There is a boat livery there to rent rowboats, and there is plenty of shoreline access. This is a wonderful place to take a fly rod and enjoy the action. Small shiny spoons, shad darts and brightly colored and weighted flies work well for this catch and release action.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">

Walleye season is now open at Deep Creek Lake and the upper Potomac, and although the river is not safe for fishing at the moment due to high flows, the lake is ready. The walleye at Deep Creek Lake can be found along rocky shoals in the evenings, and along steep rocky shoreline edges. Casting jerkbaits is a fun way to fish for them as is using minnows and drifting them with a couple of split shot down deep. Largemouth bass are moving into shallower areas near fallen treetops and sunken wood. Small crankbaits that imitate crayfish is a good bet in the transition areas where it is a little deeper, while jerkbaits and lipless crankbaits work well in the shallower areas. Crappie can be found around bridge piers in deeper water and bluegills in the shallower areas of grassy coves. Rocky flats near points can be good places to look for smallmouth bass.

The spring trout season continues to be a winner this week as stocking crews are busy with supplemental stockings at a trout management water near you. Except for some recent heavy rain in the central region and some snow in the western region, flow conditions have generally been good. Temperatures will moderate this week so don’t miss the action. I stopped by the Albert Powell State Fish Hatchery just south of Hagerstown last week and the staff there was busy as ever moving trout out on trucks and taking care of the trout in the raceways. One thing I noticed was there are a lot of trout still in some of the raceways ready to be stocked — and some were the size and type of any trout fisherman’s dreams.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
In many of the trout management waters that are set aside for fly-fishing or catch-and-release there continues to be wonderful opportunities. Fly-fishermen are doing well using deer hair type dry flies or floating caddis with a bead head nymph dropper. Another combination that is working well is a tandem nymph rig with a strike indicator. The Hunting Creek and Little Hunting Creek special management areas are fishing well with small blue-winged olives and black caddis and a few stone flies hatching. If nothing is rising try using a small pheasant tail nymph. In the areas set aside for artificials-only, those using spinning gear can do well with small spinners.

Crappie fishing continues to be excellent this week as the larger female fish are schooling up near deep structure. Good crappie fishing can be found near docks, fallen treetops and bridge piers at Liberty Reservoir, Loch Raven Reservoir, Piney Run Reservoir and many of the smaller lakes and ponds that dot the Maryland landscape. Tidal rivers such as the Potomac, Patuxent, Nanticoke, Pocomoke and Choptank also offer good crappie fishing near structure. It is hard to beat a small minnow under a slip bobber but small jigs can work well also.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Largemouth bass are systematically moving from their deeper winter haunts toward shallower and warmer areas. The small males are closer to or in the shallower areas and the larger females tend to be a little deeper in transition areas depending on water temperatures. Both males and females are binge feeding to build up lost body mass and females are finishing off the eggs they are carrying. Small crankbaits that resemble crayfish are a good bet in the deeper transition zones. Jerkbaits work well in the shallower areas of the transition zones and small lipless crankbaits a good tactic in the shallow areas.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Last but not least fishing for catfish should not be overlooked this week. The tidal rivers have excellent populations of channel catfish. The tidal Potomac River is loaded with blue catfish and to a lesser degree in the Nanticoke River. Flathead catfish can be found in the lower Susquehanna River up to the Conowingo Dam pool.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
At the present time water temperatures near Ocean City are about 47 degrees and slightly warmer out in the deeper waters. Tautog fishing remains good at the nearshore wreck and reef sites and some nice size ones are being caught on green crabs.

<div style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Arial, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
Schools of menhaden can be seen moving north along the beaches and being pestered by diving gannets. There has been talk of a few medium-sized bluefish being caught but the big racers or large thin bluefish have not been reported yet along the beaches. In the back bay areas the first flounder has been caught inside the Ocean City Inlet and there has been some catch and release action on small striped bass around the Route 90 Bridge.

In the early days of TLTFF, I had the privilege of linking up with Keith Westra. He was a guy with a bomb proof rod tube, covered with amazing art, and a vision. As that vision developed, we began to see the evolution of Nature Boy Designs, a West Coast based company that sold unique products to the fly industry courtesy of Keith's creativity. As Keith developed one of the original designs of paracord lanyards and THE original measurement-integrated LS shirt, the expansion of NBD offerings grew every year. That evolution continued to diversify through the addition of fly management via my personal favorite NBD product, the Hat(ch) Patch. As Keith's ideas grew and came to fruition, so did his family...and thats why his latest move makes complete sense.

It was only a matter of time before this progression brought us to where we are today...a brand spankin' new, streamlined, sleek website AND the introduction of NBD Jr. We're excited to announce this progression here on TLTFF for our close friend Keith.

The support within the fly industry makes it such a unique, symbiotic system. There really isn't any other industry like it, and thats what drives people like myself to LOVE it, and Keith to continue to do what he loves via NBD. Roll on over to the new site, www.natureboydesigns.com and be sure to check out the new NBD Jr. line for all of our future outdoors people's needs.
