As sure as the snow falls in the Rockies every winter, it melts every spring. Runoff can certainly impact our ability to fish, and sometimes closing your eyes and waiting until it's over seems like the best option. However, instead of resorting to non-fishing activities, we decided to set out and explore some runoff fishing options - and this season had a little bit of everything: deep canyons, salmonflies, meadow streams, alpine creeks, wind, cutties, browns, dry flies, and big streamers.

The Flybrary

Ingenious I tell you! This website really just made my day. I have recently taken on the task of learning the entomology of Maryland streams better, this is perfect for gaining an overall knowledge!

Photographer T.C. Geist has launched a new website called "The Flybrary" which he is using to display studio images of flies, both tied and naturals in a series of albums from nymphs to bass flies. The website already has some very excellent images on display with many more to be added to over time.

Fish Art: AD Maddox

Many of you may have heard of her since she is within the elite, but maybe not. Check it, AD Maddox does some of the most beautiful Fish Art I've ever seen. I mean, seriously, absolutely amazing. Check out her site and see what you think but for now, here's her "Intro" section taken from her site...

AD Maddox was born in Nashville, Tennessee. She was raised in an artistic environment and has been painting for as long as she can remember. After traveling extensively in her 20′s she settled in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where she began her professional career painting trout. “Trout are chameleon-like, constantly changing color in and out of water – they represent an intriguing color palette and artistic challenge.” Maddox, self-taught, paints in oil mainly on Belgian linen and develops each piece with her signature layering technique. Fascinated by bright colors, Maddox is constantly challenged by each piece. “Each painting has a crux where I have to tweak, harmonize and fine tune the colors for the image to pop. This is the never-ending bull-bait as an artist!” Her style is always changing as portrayed in her works through the years. Maddox currently resides in Nashville where she balances her studio time with fly fishing trips and of course … Motorcycling!

Caddis Fly Deal #3...

To continue on with their 25 days of Christmas fly fishing deals thing, Caddis Fly has got a banger for all you trout fisherman out there.

Today’s deal is 18 flies plus a box for the great price of only $25. The Guides Pick Fly Selection has 12 Possie Buggers and 6 Half Down Golden Stones. These are our go to Hopper Dropper flies and catch fish at least 3 months out of the season on the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers. Both Flies are very effective all over the West and Rocky Mountain States. The Half Down Golden imitates both Golden Stone Flies and Hoppers, the Possie Bugger is an excellent Caddis pupae or small minnow imitation. We pick the sizes for the selection, Possie Buggers will run #10-12 and the Half Downs will be #8-10s.
