District Angling
District Angling is an independent company formed to fill a small niche in the Washington DC area. We cater to fishermen wanting access to local fisheries. We specialize in fly fishing. You probably remember us if you were a customer of a few of the previous shops in the Arlington and Alexandria areas.
Although we're currently building out the company and do not have a brick and mortar retail space you can visit, we are currently hunting for the perfect location for our shop and you will receive another e-mail from us shortly with your chance to add input about our future destination shop.
We're the same casting and fly tying instructors, travelers, and fly fishing experts that you've come to know and trust. We're first and foremost anglers, just like you. We're fly fishing junkies. We love the sport, and try to fish as much as we can. We love to fish wherever we can. We fish locally, and we travel to wherever a fish will eat a fly. We also love helping people enjoy the sport. We understand the mechanics of fly casting and the techniques that make fly tying easier and enjoyable.
We have over 100+ years of combined fly fishing experience, knowledge, and expertise among our staff. Let us help make your favorite sport and pastime enjoyable and memorable.
We're also more involved in conservation, outreach, education, and fundraising. We not only support national organizations like Project Healing Waters, Coastal Conservation Association, and Trout Unlimited, we also participate in important events and regional awareness like the Friends of Fletcher's Cove, Trout In The Classroom, and the Cape Lookout Albacore Festival.

Designed around our original Colorado’s click and pawl system, the new Colorado LT retains the same ruggedness and the signature all-metal clicker of its older brother. However, that is where the similarities end as the Colorado LT is built with a new aesthetic and modern design evident in its large arbor and highly detailed porting. Adding to its elegant simplicity, the Colorado LT boasts only 15 different parts in total, all designed, machined, and assembled in Montrose, Colorado USA.

Simplicity at its finest: when you are able to focus on everything except your equipment. The water moving around the rocks and in the riffles. The fish rising in front of you. The cast. The fly. That glorious take. This is what inspired us while designing the newest (and lightest) member of the Ross Reels family, the Colorado LT.
Harkening back to the Colorado™, our original click and pawl reel, the new Colorado LT retains the same ruggedness and the signature all-metal clicker of its older brother. However, that is where the similarities end as the Colorado LT is built with a new aesthetic and modern design evident in its large arbor and highly detailed porting.
Although it is the lightest reel in its class, you will not find any plastic here. A super-strong, fully machined aluminum frame and spool are paired with a handle machined from canvas phenolic rod - an industry first. This innovative material is found in the handles of high-end custom knives and also has the very useful property of increasing grip when wet.
Adding to its elegant simplicity, the Colorado LT boasts only 15 total parts, all designed, machined, and assembled in Montrose, Colorado USA. This heritage is reflected in the Colorado flag milled into the frame and the mountain silhouette found on the anodized aluminum clicker cover.

Trident's 2015 5-Weight Fly Reel Shootout & Review

When we released our 8-weight reel shootout, we began to demystify fly reels. We proved that cork drags didn't perform as well as modern disc drags. We also showed that it was possible to create a reel with virtually no startup inertia. It was not only was it the first reel shootout that was widely published, but it remains the only scientific test to date.
This year, we tested a reel that many more of you will use: the trout reel. More specifically, the 5-weight trout reel (for your 9' 5wt rod). We also wanted to take our testing to the next level, so we added a couple innovative categories, including a never before done freeze test to see if drags were truly sealed. All in pursuit of one question: What's the best fly reel for trout?

I had the privilege of meeting Flip at PHWFF's 2-Fly back in April. By-far one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Great sense of humor and everything he says in relation to fly fishing is fire. Absolute knowledge just pours out of him via words and actions. Watching him cast on Rose River Farm's casting pond made me feel like I was stern on the flats boat while he was on the bow down in Florida. The cast was perfect and the instruction was unbelievably relatable and on point. He was able to relate to the vets and their learning style and break down his instruction in a way they would understand. It was unreal.
A week or two ago, FlipPallot.com was launched by Mad River Outfitters. It was launched as the official homepage of the angling legend himself. You can learn from Flip, shop with him, and step into his inner circle of legends and fellow fisherman. Roll on over and check it out...
