Allen's Omega Wants to Change the Way You Think About Fly Reels

Via Hatch Magazine:

By: Chad Shmukler

We've been patiently waiting for a chance to talk about the new Omega fly reel while the team over at Allen Fly Fishing has been perfecting the design and details over the last year or so. The Omega has reared its head a couple times before being formally introduced in this year's new product showcase at IFTD in Orlando, but only briefly and without the lid really being lifted on what the Omega was all about. The Omega's driving feature, an interchangeable drag unit that can be swapped between spools and frames, is a first in the world of fly reels and one that may change the way you think about -- and buy -- fly reels.

IFTD/iCAST Live Feed and Coverage - Day 3 + 'Best of Show' Winners

The 3rd and final day begins now!

As many of you know, iCAST and IFTD (International Fly Tackle Dealer) start today down in Orlando, FL and run until Friday. I will be in constant contact with numerous friends that are attending or even in the show from our friends at Allen Fly Fishing (booth #) to my Dizm Eyewear teammate Eric Estrada at his Estrada Art booth (booth #200) to our great friend Rob Snowhite aka The Fly Fishing Consultant.

Vedavoo ARC Plier Pack @ IFTD/iCAST

Almost a year ago, good friend Scott Hunter (owner and founder of Vedavoo) and I had a phone conversation to catch up and check in. During the conversation, Scott and I got into details of new products. I had a few floating in my mind that I shoved his way and of course, being the innovative and industry-changing professional he is, he already had them on the drawing board and in the prototype stages. But, there was one sleeper that I snuck in that was not amongst the lineup...what is now the Vedavoo ARC Plier Pack. We bounced ideas and specs back in forth over the course of a few months with Scott leading the way with his knowledge of textiles and design and me contributing with my simple vision.

Boom, a few months later, at The Fly Fishing Show in Somerset, NJ I had the finished product in hand...and it was beyond what I expected, a perfected version of my vision. Heres the post I put up about the new pack post-show.

Be sure to check out the brand new Vedavoo site and give them a follow and like on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

Fly Product...Sage's New DOMAIN Fly Reel Series

-Sage DOMAIN Fly Reel Series-

Bainbridge Island, Wash. (June 12, 2014)–With a nod towards traditional designs, Sage has reimagined the full frame reel preferred by many two-handed purists with the new DOMAIN series.
Combining a full frame design to ensure no line pinches and the modern-day advantages of larger arbor and Sage’s Sealed Carbon System (SCS), the DOMAIN offers high performance not previously found in full frame reels.
“Every Sage reel is purpose-built to be the right tool to get the job done, and the DOMAIN is no exception,” notes Kurt VanWyck, Sage director of research and design. “This reel is designed with a nod to tradition but with all the modern engineering and advances anglers have come to expect from Sage reels.”

Created from fully machined 6061-T6 aerospace grade aluminum, the DOMAIN is cold-forged and tempered for superior strength and rigidity. Each model is hard anodized for surface protection and corrosion resistance, and the concave, ported large arbor offers great strength and impressive capacity. The one-revolution drag knob has numbered settings for consistency. The DOMAIN easily converts from left to right-hand retrieve and is available in platinum, stealth and lime. This reel family is offered in size 5, 8, and 10 and will be available in August 2014 starting at $340.

Fly Products...Sage's New ACCEL and SALT Fly Rod Series

Announced just in time for ICAST/IFTD...

Via Pitch Engine:

-Sage ACCEL Fly Rod Series-

Bainbridge Island, Wash. (June 12, 2014)–Renowned fly rod manufacturer, Sage, brings medium-fast action single-hand, switch and two-hand fly rods to the market with the ACCEL series by reinventing proven Generation 5 technology.
“Adding a graphite hoop core and axial fiber material in the new Generation 5 technology allowed for a lighter, ultra-responsive, and livelier blank with a narrower shaft,” says Sage chief rod designer Jerry Siem. “The ACCEL permits anglers to feel the rod load for optimum casting control.”
The ACCEL comes in an emerald green blank color with olive green thread wraps with garnet and black trim wraps. Fuji ceramic stripper guides and hard-chromed snake guides and tip top complete the blank. Freshwater rods from 3-6 weights have a rosewood insert with stealth black anodized aluminum up-locking reel seat and a snub-nose, half-wells cork handle. Saltwater models from 6-9 weights feature a stealth black anodized aluminum up-locking reel seat and also feature a snub-nose, half-wells cork handle. The switch and two-hand models have a cork grip on both the fore and rear grips.

The ACCEL will come in a black rod bag with emerald green logo and model tag inside a leaf green ballistic nylon rod tube with a divided liner. All models come in 4-piece configurations and will be available in August. Single-hand rods will retail fro $595, switch rods will retail for $695, and the two-handed models will retail for $750

-Sage SALT Fly Rod Series-

Bainbridge Island, Wash. (June 12, 2014)–The team at Sage understands the kind of intense pressure saltwater fishing puts on fly rod performance. This fall, to meet the incredibly diverse range of casting demands in saltwater angling, Sage introduces the SALT.
Using Konnetic Technology®, Sage created the SALT to load quickly as well as maintain high line speeds and accuracy to land the fly exactly where wary saltwater species demand. The SALT’s robust salt-action taper provides the power needed to cast today’s heavier fly lines and deliver all sizes of flies at any range with precision.
“The ability to adapt to quickly changing conditions is imperative when saltwater fishing, and Konnetic Technology allows deft sensitivity and the ability to track extremely straight. The new SALT shines in all fishing scenarios,” comments Sage chief rod designer, Jerry Siem.

Available in 12 models ranging from five through 16-weights, the SALT uses a fast-loading, salt action blank in dark sapphire with black thread wraps and silver trim wraps. The oversized Fuji ceramic stripper guides and hard chromed snake guides and tip top ensure this rod performs. The heavy-duty stealth black anodized aluminum up-locking reel seat creates a solid nest for the reel, and the hidden hook keeper in the reel seat keeps things sleek. The super full-wells cork handle offers a positive grip in tough fishing conditions. The SALT comes in a black rod back with electric blue logo and model tag in a matching electric blue powder-coated aluminum rod tube with Sage medallion. The Sage SALT will be available at retail in August 2014 for a retail price of $850
