Fly Products...2017 Fishpond Product Line

Via Pitchengine:

DENVER (July 11, 2016) – Well-respected fly fishing and outdoor brand Fishpond continues to break barriers in design and function with its 2017 product introductions. Debuting July 13-15 at the International Fly Tackle Dealer show in Orlando at booth 433, Fishpond will bring its new products to market in fall 2016.

Creating products that keep up with adventurers on the water and during inclement weather, Fishpond designed the Thunderhead Submersible Duffels, available in two sizes, to withstand any environment around the world. The TPU welded 840 denier fabric and TIZIP submersible zipper ensure valuable gear stays dry and safe. Braided climbing rope handles on both sizes and tuck-away backpack straps on the large model easily carry a variety of loads. The signature welded bottom creates a sturdy platform to easily open and sort gear, and provides extra durability and a higher level of protection from abrasion. The smaller version is carry-on compatible, while the larger version can fit 9 foot, 4-piece fly rod tubes inside. At 2.6 and 4.2 pounds, respectively, the bags will be go-to options for kayakers, anglers and those who demand a waterproof and submersible carry system. MSRP: $299.95 and $399.95, respectively.

Another submersible bag is the new Castaway Roll Top Gear Bag, designed to fit in the hatches of most flats boats and to efficiently function on rafts and drift boats. The roll-top closure and TPU welded construction ensure camera gear, optics and fly gear stay dry. The removable, padded interior means the bag can pack flat in luggage, while the signature molded bottom provides structure without the padded interior. Ample accessory pockets make it supremely functional for hard-core river time. MSRP: $189.95

Fishpond’s Jackalope Rod Tube Case allows anglers to ditch rod tubes and carry up to six 9 foot, 4-piece rods in their socks for fishing adventures around the world. The molded and lockable zippered top and bottom allow easy loading and surround a lightweight, yet rigid, tube designed to protect rods and easily fit in carry-on compartments and many of fishpond’s larger luggage pieces. MSRP: $109.95

Another net joins the Nomad collection with the new Emerger Net. Its size has a slender opening with a slightly longer handle than the Hand Net to easily slide into fishpond packs’ net slots. The net will come in original and brown trout colors. Dimensions: 32 inches from handle butt to tip of hoop, hoop size 9.8 inches by 18.8 inches. MSRP: $149.95

A couple of accessories join the product introductions for 2017, including the Beavertail Fly Patch. The molded patch has high visibility foam and two-sided Velcro for multiple configuration options. MSRP: $12.95. The River Rat Beverage Holder is every river user’s dream beverage caddie. The EVA insulated side-walls keep beverages cold, and the YKK zippered top cap offers easy access and a snug fit. The sticky rubber molded bottom prevents sliding and the removable, adjustable webbing neck strap provides hands-free carrying. MSRP: $29.95
Fishpond’s new FP collection of waxed cotton canvas inspires travel, adventure and a journey defined by a purposeful lifestyle. With five new pieces in the 11-piece collection, Fishpond thought of everything a traveler would need. Each piece has 16 ounce waxed cotton canvas exterior fabric and CYCLEPOND® recycled interior fabric.

The Jagged Basin Duffel and Half Moon Weekender Bag are ideal for quick trips thanks to hidden backpack straps and carry-on compatibility. The duffel fits in in the back of a truck just as well as it does in the cargo-hold of an airplane. The weekender has three compartments for the utmost detail in organization. MSRP: $179.95 and $189.95, respectively.

The Horse Thief Tote is rugged and utilitarian thanks to its signature molded bottom to stand on its own and well-designed interior and exterior pockets. MSRP: $89.95

Both the Blizzard Soft Cooler and Ice Storm Soft Cooler have been redesigned for ultimate functionality. The Blizzard holds up to 18 beverage cans with a quick-access flap on the top. The Ice Storm is a larger cooler designed to hold plenty of food and drinks for days fishing, hunting, road tripping or camping. Both have multi-layer insulation to keep items cool for hours and exterior pockets for maps, cutting boards, utensils and other accessories. MSRP: $79.95 and $99.95, respectively. (Both coolers are also offered with CYCLEPOND recycled nylon in yucca for $10 less per style.)
UPDATE: Fishpond took home the Best in Show - Eco-Friendly Product at IFTD this year!

Fly Product...Nautilus X Fly Reel Series

Via Yellowstone Angler:

Saltwater reel winner in the showcase at IFTD, this reel was originally called Project X, but we think the name will be simply the Nautilus X.  Kristin Mustad had great ideas on how to build these reels to make them both light and strong as well as cut the machining time to make them relatively inexpensive too.  The finished product is impressive, and deserving of the awards they have gotten.  Nautilus uses their SCF-X disc brake technology to give us a smooth and powerful drag that is very easy to adjust.  Prices run from $275 for the X34 and X45 (line size 4/5) up to $345 for the X67, and $395 for the X89  (line size 8/9). These will be available in Jan. of 2016.  For now the FWX reels will remain in the line-up too.

Allen's Omega Wants to Change the Way You Think About Fly Reels

Via Hatch Magazine:

By: Chad Shmukler

We've been patiently waiting for a chance to talk about the new Omega fly reel while the team over at Allen Fly Fishing has been perfecting the design and details over the last year or so. The Omega has reared its head a couple times before being formally introduced in this year's new product showcase at IFTD in Orlando, but only briefly and without the lid really being lifted on what the Omega was all about. The Omega's driving feature, an interchangeable drag unit that can be swapped between spools and frames, is a first in the world of fly reels and one that may change the way you think about -- and buy -- fly reels.

Vedavoo ARC Plier Pack @ IFTD/iCAST

Almost a year ago, good friend Scott Hunter (owner and founder of Vedavoo) and I had a phone conversation to catch up and check in. During the conversation, Scott and I got into details of new products. I had a few floating in my mind that I shoved his way and of course, being the innovative and industry-changing professional he is, he already had them on the drawing board and in the prototype stages. But, there was one sleeper that I snuck in that was not amongst the lineup...what is now the Vedavoo ARC Plier Pack. We bounced ideas and specs back in forth over the course of a few months with Scott leading the way with his knowledge of textiles and design and me contributing with my simple vision.

Boom, a few months later, at The Fly Fishing Show in Somerset, NJ I had the finished product in hand...and it was beyond what I expected, a perfected version of my vision. Heres the post I put up about the new pack post-show.

Here are some specs and details on the pack...

Jumping forward to present day...the Vedavoo ARC Plier Pack is currently entered into the "New Product Showcase" at IFTD/iCAST as your reading this post. I spoke with Scott briefly two nights ago and he informed me of this. I couldn't express more gratitude to Scott for not only making my vision come true and moving forward with this collaboration...but also in being such a great friend and reflection of the type of people that drive this industry forward.

Be sure to check out the brand new Vedavoo site and give them a follow and like on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

Thank you Scott.

Fly Product...Sage's New DOMAIN Fly Reel Series

-Sage DOMAIN Fly Reel Series-

Bainbridge Island, Wash. (June 12, 2014)–With a nod towards traditional designs, Sage has reimagined the full frame reel preferred by many two-handed purists with the new DOMAIN series.
Combining a full frame design to ensure no line pinches and the modern-day advantages of larger arbor and Sage’s Sealed Carbon System (SCS), the DOMAIN offers high performance not previously found in full frame reels.
“Every Sage reel is purpose-built to be the right tool to get the job done, and the DOMAIN is no exception,” notes Kurt VanWyck, Sage director of research and design. “This reel is designed with a nod to tradition but with all the modern engineering and advances anglers have come to expect from Sage reels.”

Created from fully machined 6061-T6 aerospace grade aluminum, the DOMAIN is cold-forged and tempered for superior strength and rigidity. Each model is hard anodized for surface protection and corrosion resistance, and the concave, ported large arbor offers great strength and impressive capacity. The one-revolution drag knob has numbered settings for consistency. The DOMAIN easily converts from left to right-hand retrieve and is available in platinum, stealth and lime. This reel family is offered in size 5, 8, and 10 and will be available in August 2014 starting at $340.
