Legends of the Fly

MEET THE KING OF SILVER KINGS

No one has achieved in the world of fly fishing what Andy Mill has. He’s won more Tarpon tournaments than any angler in history.  He’s only the second angler to win five Gold Cup tournaments. (The Gold Cup Tarpon Tournament is essentially, the Super Bowl of fly fishing.)  And he holds title to the triple crown of tarpon fishing — winning The Gold CupThe Don Hawley Invitational, and The Golden Fly, all in the same year.  What’s more, Mill is the only angler to have won a tarpon, bonefish and permit tournament on fly.
In conjunction with his award winning book, A Passion for Tarpon, he has found himself as one of our sports’ leading authorities.  Andy has served on the Board of the National Atlantic Salmon Fishing Federation, and is also an honorary Trustee of the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust
Prior to his remarkable career as a tournament angler, Mill was an elite alpine downhill ski racer (ranked number one in the U.S. from 1974-1981) and competed in the 1976 Olympics — where he placed 6th skiing on a severely injured ankle.
For his heroics, Andy was awarded the Olympic Skiing Award.
Few figures in fly fishing loom larger than Andy Mill.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from the Legend.

Whether you’ve never fly fished a day in your life, or you’re a seasoned veteran, Legends of the Fly 2017 is an event you’ll not want to miss. This is your chance to learn — or improve — the essential skills of fly fishing. Its a wonderful opportunity to not only learn about our local waters, but a chance to meet other people interested in this incredible sport as well.

The day will start at 12pm with casting clinics led by local legend Cory Routh and other expert casters.  Fly tying instruction — courtesy of the talented folks at Virginia Coastal Fly Anglers — also begins at this time.
1 – 2:30pm  View presentations by Elizabeth River ProjectLynnhaven River Now and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation about their efforts on behalf of our local waters.  These informative sessions will give every angler a better understanding of the state of our fishery, and what they can do to help protect it.  Fly tying and casting instruction continues.  Auction tables open.
2:30 – 3pm  What’s new in fly fishing gear — A presentation of the latest and greatest in fly fishing equipment.
3 – 4:30pm  Fly fishing legend Andy Mill shares stories about his incredible career as a competitive fly fisherman, professional ski racer and TV personality.  Andy will conclude with a demonstration of fish fighting skills developed over countless hours of wrestling big fish.  Andy’s presentations are widely considered the best in the industry, so don’t miss this entertaining 90 minutes.
4:30 – 8:30  Let the evening festivities begin!  Bid on a host of groovy silent auction items.  Enter the raffle for cool YETI gear.  Load up on Reverend Jim’s BBQ.  Tap some sweet local drafts.  Cash in on an Orange Crush, courtesy of Waterman’s Surfside Grill!  And of course, you’ll not want to miss the screening of winning entries from this year’s FlyFishingFilm Tour!
While a key focus of Legends of the Fly is on fun, we must remind you that without a healthy fishery, the fun is diminished for all of us.

As such, proceeds from this year’s Legends of the Fly will benefit the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and other local environmental organizations.
Please, please be generous in your support of Legends of the Fly 2017.
You’ll help us, help them.
