The winter months can keep even the most die-hard anglers indoors. Not necessarily because of the fear of cold temps, but the often fickle nature of trout when the water temps drop. Many are finding, however, that the right fly can make for some days that rival the feeding frenzies of the spring and summer! Adjusting one's approach can open opportunities for great days when the rivers and lakes have substantially less traffic!
Keep it small! Stick with the smallest sizes in most flies for the best results. With your nymphs, always go with a beadhead to keep it down where the fish are looking for food. Dries can work great as well when you can find trout feeding on tiny midges on the surface.
